The manuscript is Completed. Accomplished. A minimum of for now. ; swiss cartier replica watches ) So when will you see it at Barnes & Noble, you ask? Sigh. I just thought I would take a minute to explain the "traditional" publishing process.

First thing's first when it comes to memoir. You write it. Hard, but doable with persistence and dedication and a lot of coffee. While writing, this will seem like the challenging part. Finding the right word and tone and voice. Not all that easy.

As you are doing this you are hopefully building your "platform." This means you are creating a built-in audience for your book. If your book was published tomorrow, these are the people you would expect to be interested in going out and getting a copy. Platform consists of many things including Twitter followers, Facebook friends, blogs, email lists, speaking engagements, affiliations. You get it, right? Today it basically amounts to shouting your name from the virtual rooftop off into the internet and hoping to catch someone's attention.

Next up on the traditional route is finding an agent.

Do you simply look one up and hire one? No, not at all. You persuade them to represent you. You write what is called a query which is basically a letter telling them a little about your book and a little about you and your platform and hope they bite and ask for more. You want, in a couple of paragraphs, to make your book sound like a best-seller, like something they would be a fool to pass up. And I'll tell you, this is no easy feat. I should keep track of the hours I spend on these things. Hours today alone - and that was just revising based on a critique!

Now, for a nonfiction book you will need a book proposal. This is a 25+ page document in which you give an overview of your book, list both competing and comparable books and a little about each, write a bio, cartier copy watches create a detailed outline - chapter by chapter of the book, and include a sample chapter. Sigh. Tired yet

Then, once you've polished everything to a high shine, you send your query out into the world and WAIT. You wait for an agent to bite and ask for more chapters or the full manuscript. I hear the WAIT is unbearable. Looking forward to it.

Eventually, if the stars align and you've made enough wishes on your necklace clasp, you will land an agent. Yay! An agent! Books on the shelf! No. Not close.

Once you find an agent you and he or she will polish what you thought was already perfect some more. Then the agent will go hunting for a publisher which sounds a lot like you finding an agent. Then maybe, just maybe, your book will find a publisher and there will be contracts and a whole lot more to contend with (which I will HAPPILY contend with). swiss fake rolex watches Then the publisher will print your book and try to sell it to bookstores the way your agent sold it to them and the way you sold it to your agent. Sigh. Now I bet you're tired.

So, yes, my book is carried out but there is so much more to be completed before anyone gets to hold it in their hands or read it on their Kindle. But I am working hard, replicas cartier I promise.
